Who did your blog design?
Blair at Leap – I highly recommend!
Where are you originally from?
I grew up in Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley area – about an hour outside of Philadelphia.
Where did you go to college?
Elon University in North Carolina
Why did you decide to move to New York City?
I really fell in love with the city after interning here during the summer of my sophomore year. So when I realized I wanted a career in the fashion and beauty industry it was only logical to make the move after graduation 🙂
Where are your favorite places to eat in NYC?
Brunch – Hundred Acres, Prune, Cornelia Street Cafe, Jeffrey’s Grocery, Rosemary’s
Happy Hour/Dinner – Mermaid Inn, Aria, The Half Pint, BBar & Grill, Chelsea Market, Cowgirl, Barrow Street Ale House, The Smith
Pizza – Joe’s on Carmine Street
Burgers – Shake Shack (the Tribeca location has the shortest line)
I’m coming to NYC – what do you recommend I do?
Definitely check out the Chelsea Market and the Highline. I also love people-watching in Washington Square Park and walking up Bleecker Street through the West Village. Also check out the Upper West Side particularly Columbus and Amsterdam Avenue – great shops, the Museum of Natural History and Central Park.
Tell me about the neighborhoods in NYC – where do my most people live when moving there for the first time?
I’ve found that a lot of people who move to the city after college tend to live in Murray Hill, the East Village, Midtown, the Upper East Side and the Lower East Side. These neighborhoods tend to be less expensive than neighborhoods like Tribeca, the West Village and Chelsea. If you’re willing to live outside of Manhattan then I’d consider Brooklyn or Astoria, Queens – a lot of people I work with live there and the commute into the city is easy + rent is a lot cheaper in the boroughs.
How many internships did you have in college?
3 – all were at PR agencies.
How many internships do you recommend doing in school?
As many as you can!
Do you have any advice for getting an internship?
Yep I do! I listed out my tips in this video on my YouTube channel here. If you have additional questions feel free to tweet me or send a message to my Facebook page.
Do you need to major in public relations to get a job in PR?
I get this question a lot and the answer is absolutely not. I’ve interned and worked with people who have majored in biology, English, psychology, etc. Getting a job in PR is all about your internship and work experience – not what classes you took in school.
