How To Use Ebay To Purchase Brand Name Holiday Gifts

Dolce by Dolce and Gabbana Perfume

Just because it’s the holidays doesn’t mean you need to break the bank and over-spend. I personally plan on using eBay this year to purchase brand-name holiday gifts for Nick and my family. I’ll admit that I used to find eBay intimidating. There is such a HUGE selection, and there is literally a seller for everything. With a little commitment and an idea of what you are looking for ahead of time, it can truly be the best destination to check off your gifting list and get brand-name items at a major discount.

Today, I wanted to share a personal example, along with my tips for purchasing hard-to-find or trendy items using eBay.

You all know my Grandma is one of the most special people in my life. She is also one of the most difficult to buy a gift for! She and my Pop Pop are a prime example of people who already have everything. This year, I FINALLY thought of the perfect gift for my Grandma: a fragrance! She is obsessed with Dolce & Gabbana scents, and her favorite is the new Dolce Eau de Parfum. I always tease her that she must bathe in it because of how quickly she runs out.

Although a fragrance can last a long time (expect in my Gram’s case), the initial cost can be a tough pill to swallow. Designer perfumes are incredibly expensive! A 2.5-ounce bottle of Dolce retails for $117. On eBay, I was able to find it for $49.95—a fraction of the cost.

Tips for using eBay:

  1. Know what you are looking for ahead of time

Since there are so many categories and products, have a game plan by brainstorming ahead of time the exact items you are looking to purchase.

  1. Do your research and be aware of retail pricing

Know the product! This includes retail pricing, design details, packaging, etc. With a little research, you can avoid possibly purchasing an incorrect item.

  1. Buy from a reputable seller

Always check the seller’s rating and reviews before making a purchase. If they have a high approval and people are buying from them on a regular basis, then you are most likely in good hands.

  1. Make sure the seller has a return policy and is PayPal verified

As a customer, you should have the option to send back items if you are unhappy or if it’s not what you expected. Also, any seller who is PayPal verified has had to disclose their contact information. Not accepting PayPal could be a warning sign that a seller isn’t legitimate.

  1. Only buy from listings that are done professionally

Don’t buy from a listing that has spelling and grammar errors or low-res images. You wouldn’t shop in-store somewhere unprofessional, so why would you do so online?

Do you use eBay? If so, what are your tips for shopping there?
