Food Crawl | My Look + City Eats

To celebrate our 4 year anniversary Nick and I spent Saturday doing a food crawl across Manhattan (how fitting). We were originally planning on doing something more romantic and going to a nice restaurant but of course I waited way too long and we couldn’t get a reservation anywhere. We basically just said screw it – let’s go out for pizza, doughnuts and fried chicken instead. Here’s where we went!

First stop: Joe’s Pizza on Carmine Street in the West Village. Joe’s is known for being the best pizza in NYC – the crust is thin, the cheese fresh and it has just the right amount of sauce. It’s classic NY pizza at it’s finest. Not sure why we don’t go here more often. It’s only $2.50 a slice and it’s right down the street from our apt – totally going back for more…

Second stop: Doughnut Plant on 23rd Street in Chelsea. We took a scenic walk up through the West Village and the Meatpacking District – of course people watching, dog stalking and townhouse creeping all along the way. We were blessed with gorgeous weather so we didn’t mind the 30 minute walk. If you ever visit the city and are looking to walk the streets I’d definitely suggest starting in the lower West Village (like Carmine Street) and then walking straight up Hudson Street to Chelsea. I know a lot of people love Bleecker Street because of all the great shopping but I try to avoid it because it’s SO crowded with tourists. Hudson Street is much quieter and just as charming – trust me.
Now for my thoughts on Doughnut Plant… don’t get me wrong they were good doughnuts, but not as good as I thought they’d be. I was expecting some bomb deliciousness, but they were really just your average doughnut. Still yummy but nothing I’d ever go out of my way to get again. They had some cool flavors though – I loved the creme brulee!
I was wearing…

Later that night (we needed a break lol) we met up with my high school bff Tara for dinner at Peels. The menu is simple, all-American food with a southern twist. I loved the fried chicken and biscuits I ordered but Nick and Tara weren’t too impressed with their dishes. It’s a little expensive for what you get ($3 for a biscuit, $8 for brussels sprouts…) but hey that’s New York. I definitely want to go back for brunch soon, specifically for the build-a-biscuit special. After dinner we ended the night with a few beers at Phebes, one of our go-to bars on the Bowery.
I feel like I’m finally getting an idea of the food landscape in NYC (well my neighborhood at least). I’ve developed a list of a few restaurants and little hole-in-the-wall places I definitely would suggest to others. If you guys every want suggestions feel free to send me a message on my FB page or shoot me an email! If you have any suggestions for other restaurants or eats I need to try let me know in the comments below! xo
