DIY: Leather Wrap Bracelets

I've become completely obsessed with DIY projects and after my latest DIY Glitter Shoes I decided to take on jewelry. While browsing Honestly...WTF I came upon a DIY tutorial for leather wrap bracelets and decided to attempt them on my own. My version varies slightly but it's the same general idea.

my bracelets

You’ll need (for a double wrapped bracelet):

  • 40 inches of 1.5mm or 2mm leather cord (pick a neutral color)
  • 12 inches of crystal chain
  • 60 inches of waxed cotton cord (pick a bright color)
  • a 1/4″ brass hex nut (I bought a pack of four at a hardware store)
  • a pair of scissors
All of these supplies can be found in the jewelry/beading section of the craft store, minus the hex nut.

Since I got a lot of great feedback from my viewers on YouTube saying that they wanted to see a video for how to make the bracelets I just decided to film one instead of writing a blog post. Also don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel! I'm nearing 6,000 subscribers!

Also! Happy Halloween! =D

Clean & Crisp

DSC_0011
May I introduce you to my Brooks Brothers dress shirt. When I wear it I feel like I'm wearing one of my boyfriend's shirts, except one made just for me complete with pink stripes. There is just something about a crisp, freshly pressed dress shirt that I love. I decided to add a statement bib necklace around the collar of my shirt to add something extra. Wasn't sure if it worked but after seeing these pictures I may have to pair statement necklaces with dress shirts more often.

Notice I'm missing a cufflink on my right arm? Just got this shirt dry-cleaned and accidentally misplaced a cufflink. Thankfully my boyfriend Nick had the genius idea of using a safety pin in its place. Luckily I found the cufflink later in the day!

DIY: City Skyline Nails

As my last fall semester of college comes to a close, I'm beginning to think more and more of my life after graduation. The summer after my sophomore year I interned with a large public relations agency in New York City and completely fell in love with the lifestyle. Since then I have always known that I want to live and work in New York. In honor of the city I dream about so often I decided to recreate a skyline on my nails. Check out the my video tutorial of how to recreate this look on your nails. You can also visit www.cosmetologyschool.net, if you want to be a professional nail artist. And please don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel (I'm nearing 6,000 subscribers, crazy!)

Corporate Monday

DSC_4096

Not going to lie. One of the main reasons I love having an internship is because it gives me an excuse to dress up three times per week. I really love this look because to me it's the perfect mix of casual and corporate. My favorite relaxed J. Crew trousers and Tory flats on the bottom. Then a perfectly tailored blazer and statement tee on top. The blazer really completes the silhouette, taking a seemingly casual outfit and making it professional.

Runway my Way: Theory Flares

Ever since seeing the above look from Theory's fall/winter 2011 collection I have been searching for the perfect pair of red flared pants and a new go-to cozy sweater. As much as I'd love Theory's Scotia sweater and Shimira corduroy flares they are just out of my budget for this fall. However I found just what I was looking for in of all places, Miami, this past weekend on my fall break vacation. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a comparable sweater at Zara ($50) and an almost identical pair of burnt red flares at Urban Outfitters ($58). There's nothing like getting a look for less.

Pink and Green Stripes

DSC_0064
The weather the past few weeks has been absolutely dreadful to say the least. My life has consisted of frizzy hair and rumpled clothes thanks to the rain, humidity and wind. But the weather did let up for a little bit the other day so Nick and I quickly made our way outside to take some photos. I can already say my go-to look for winter is going to be a skirt (such as this one from the Missoni for Target collection) paired with a solid tee and finished with some sort of heel (preferably wedges). And since nobody likes cold legs, I will adorn mine with either bright trouser socks or tights.

Fall Shoe Lusts

Clockwise from top left: Burberry Prorsum, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Lanvin, Lanvin, Theysekens Theory, Hunter, Cole Haan, DKNY

Just a little collage of all the shoes I would buy if I wasn't on a college student's budget. Sigh. On the bright side though, here is a resource from Promotional codes to help you if you are on a budget as well! I was hoping to have an outfit blog post up today but lately the weather has not been on my side. It's been non-stop rain the past few weeks with only bits of sunshine in between. I'm heading to Miami on Saturday so I'm hoping for some sun then, but according to weather.com it may be raining there too. I just can't catch a break! Happy Wednesday everyone!

DIY: The Spotlight Nail

Now that I've finally grasped the art of basic nail painting (my mom painted my nails for me up until I was 19) I've moved on to some more advanced and creative manicures. After seeing a nail tutorial on cupcakesandcashmere.com I decided to recreate a simpler look using the leftover gold glitter from my Miu Miu-inspired glitter heels. What resulted is what I am now calling the "spotlight nail." I first painted all my nails using one of my favorite polishes, Estée Lauder Extravagant Pearl, but instead of letting my ring fingers dry I sprinkled on a little bit of the gold glitter. Such a fun and easy way to "bling out" an otherwise simple manicure
