DIY Glitter Pumps

DSC_0128
I know we've all seen and heard of the glitter heel craze sweeping the fashion blog-osphere this fall. This can all be attributed to Miu Miu's fall 2011 line of glittered and bedazzled pumps, booties and sneakers. As much as I'd love throw down $600 on a pair of golden glitter heels I decided to go the cheaper route and make my own. Big thanks to the Glitter Guide for inspiring this DIY tutorial!

You will need:
old patent leather heels
sandpaper
extra fine gold glitter
paint brush
Elmer's glue (any type of basic glue)
bowl for mixing glue and glitter
Modge Podge clear sealer spray gloss (not pictured)
newspaper

I'd suggest using extra fine glitter. It will mix better with the glue.

How to make your pumps:
1. Gently sand or "exfoliate" your heels on all areas where you plan on applying glitter
2. Mix 2 parts glue to 1 part glitter. I used about 1.5 tablespoons of glue per shoe. Just play it by sight and make sure your glitter paste is not too thick
3. Paint your shoes with your glitter glue
4. Sprinkle the leftover glitter all over your shoes. Do not worry about getting glitter in your shoes you can clean them out later
5. Allow your shoes to dry for 24 hours
6. Take your shoes outside and spray them with a sealer. This will prevent the glitter from falling off later. I sprayed mine twice
7. Allow your shoes to dry for another 24 hours

AMAZING IDEA! I want to do the same with some flat shoes, but I have a question, what is a sealer?
I'll check your video too.

I can walk under the rain later, or they are not made to resist the water?

See you and thanks :)

Thanks so much for this! I've been looking for a tutorial on how to cover up an unfortunate nasty scuff on my new patent leather black heels and every tutorial I've found does the glitter on fabric. You're awesome! :)

I just did these to a pair of my shoes, but i think i might have messed up. At the end when i sprayed them, i didnt realize it but i think i bought the wrong spray. I got the elmers craft bond spray adhesive. Do you think they are ruined? They feel a little sticky
