MAC Brushes 101: My Top 5 Picks

Every girl obsessed with makeup needs brushes. and that's where MAC brushes come in. I swear by them. They're easy to use, long-lasting, and really give precise application. I've been getting questions on YouTube about MAC brushes, what my favorites are, and suggestions for people going to MAC.

MAC brushes are expensive so I decided to pick 5 to show to you all. These are the top 5 that I think everyone should get from MAC if they're looking to start a MAC brush collection.

Check out pics and video below :)

This is my go-to blending brush. I use this for blending colors into my crease, highlight application, all-over color application, and for my cream shadows. This brush is so multi-functional. I can't believe I've had it since high school and it's still in great condition (5 years old). Just goes to show what great quality these brushes are.

The 219 is an amazing brush for detailed eyeshadow looks. I use this to place color on my lower lashline, outer-corner,  inner-corner, and crease. I just purchased this brush a few months ago and I am so happy I did.

The 239. If you should buy any brush from MAC it is this one. This is such a classic eyeshadow brush. For a small brush it can pack on and pick up so much color. I use this brush when placing eyeshadow on my lid and highlight.
Opinions can differ on face brush preferences but the 130 is my current favorite when applying liquid foundation. This short duo fibre is great for applying foundation on my nose, under-eyes, forehead, and chin. It has a small, even, round head which is great if you have smaller features like me. If you prefer all-over coverage on your cheeks opt for the larger 187.

The 129 is the perfect powder brush. I use this to apply my bronzer and blush. I also use this brush to contour.

The best trio

Parisian Prep - Marc Jacobs - Resort 2011 Collection

While browsing Elle.com I came across an article talking about the latest trends for Resort 2011. One of my favorite trends seen on runways would have to be Parisian Prep most notably seen throughout the Marc Jacobs collection.

Whenever I think of Paris, luxury clothing, glamour, and femininity; Brigitte Bardot always comes to mind. She is such an icon and her beauty breathtaking.

Holiday Makeup

So it's Christmas Eve and I just finished eating dinner with my family but I thought I'd share a makeup tutorial with you all that I just uploaded to YouTube last night. It's a gorgeous golden purple holiday look that I actually wore to a holiday party last weeked (pictures here). I created the look using my Red Ginger Cosmetics 88 Palette and 2 different MAC pigments, Old Gold and Push the Edge.

Enjoy!

This tutorial was fun for me to do because I really don't do dramatic makeup or use MAC pigments on an everyday basis. If you aren't into using pigments or loose shadows you could always complete this look using comparable colors from an 88 palette (check out Coastal Scents below) or other eyeshadows in your collection.

I love shadows from e.l.f. as well because they're inexpensive and highly pigmented. Shop e.l.f. Cosmetics - $1 Makeup

Also Ulta has just about every brand under the sun. Check out what's On Sale Now at Ulta for makeup that might be discounted from the holidays.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Chanel Particulière Nail Colour

On a recent trip to the Macy's beauty department I finally caved and made a stop at the expensive but oh-so-chic Chanel counter.  There were so many products I wanted however I had my eyes set on only 1 thing, nail polish. After tough deliberation I finally decided on Particulière 505.

At first I wasn't a big fan of the gray/taupe/beige nail trend going on over the past months. But in recent weeks it's really grown on me after seeing it featured on many of my favorite beauty blogs and celebrities. Particulière is such a timeless color that I feel can be worn year-round. Another thing I love about it is how the color changes depending on the light and a person's skin tone. On me in bright light it's a warm beige with gray undertones. In darker light it looks light a cool taupe gray.

This is the first time I've used a Chanel nail colour and I have to say the finish and texture is amazing. When initially applied to the nail I was afraid it was too streaky but within seconds it seems as if the polish naturally smoothed itself out over nail in an even coat. I was amazed! To get opaque coverage I only needed one coat which dried within 10 minutes.

I am so happy that I bought this polish. It is absolutely gorgeous, timeless, and a color I could wear year-round. I am very impressed. Let's just say I'm already looking forward to my next purchase from Chanel.

Sequined Milly Sweater Dress

So I recently wrote a post about how much I love Milly dresses so it seemed fitting for me to do a photo post of me wearing one of my Milly dresses. This past weekend was my grandpa's retirement party, or should I say "extravaganza". Let's just say my grandma went all out with an open bar, dancing, seafood bar, and a 5 foot tall cupcake mountain.

Check out some of the pictures below:

Current Obsession: Yankee Candles

Whenever I think of winter and the holidays I always think of candles. They just remind me of warmth and put me in festive spirit. My mom is also obsessed with candles and has them strewn all about our house. Recently she's been burning Yankee Candle's limited edition Holiday Cookie scent.

Since I've been around so many candles lately I thought it would only be fitting to get my mom a Yankee Candle for a gift this year as well as treat myself to one. A few days ago my boyfriend and I went shopping there and luckily there was a deal for buy 2 get 1 free. He bought 1 for his mom and I bought 1 for mine and since I'm a girl and obviously cooler than him I got the free candle :D

Check out my scents below :)

Home Sweet Home - Large Jar - $24

This basically smells like warm cinnamon berry tea. Exactly like home and perfect for my mom since she drinks tea all the time. The candle is also a gorgeous maroon pink color which I think my mom will enjoy. I cannot get over how good this candle smells. It is absolutely amazing and probably my favorite scent in the entire store.

Midsummer's Night - Large Jar - $24

This scent I got for free and I can't wait to use it in my room  in my apt. The saleswoman described this candle as smelling like "a man in a bottle" and yes, she was right. This scent reminds me of a musky, softer smelling mens cologne. It's not overpowering. Very fresh but still deep and mysterious. I also love that the candle color is a deep blue. It will go great with my navy, silver color sceme in my room.

Smells sooooooo goood!
What are your favorite holiday scents? Any suggestions for my next purchase at Yankee Candle?

Sephora Hello Kitty Collection

Ever since I was a little girl I have always loved Hello Kitty. I had Hello Kitty pens, notebooks, a backpack, and a lunch box. I even had Hello Kitty clothing. To me it only maakes sense that companies should make Hello Kitty makeup. I remember when MAC came out with the Hello  Kitty collection about 2 years ago. I bought almost ever product.

Now Sephora is coming out with their own Hello Kitty line and I can't wait! This collection differs from MAC's collection because it is a little bit more girly. MAC's collection was more hip and retro. The packaging was black and featured a mod-looking Hello Kitty face. Sephora's collection is pink, sparkly, and will definitely add glamour to your everyday routine.

Check out what I will be buying from the Sephora Hello Kitty Collection:

Say Hello Palette - Happy Fun ($35)

The Happy Fun palette includes:
- Ice Cream (pearl white) eyeshadow
- Airplane (taupe) eyeshadow
- Chocolate Milk (brown) eyeshadow
- Peppermint (sage green) eyeshadow
- Baby Pink (pink) lip gloss
- Peach Pudding (peach) lip gloss
- Strawberry Jam (dark pink) lip gloss
- Springtime (apricot) lip gloss

Apple Cheeks ($22)

Sweet Gloss ($16)

Say Hello Palette - Super Fun ($35)

The Super Fun palette includes:
- Raindrop (gray) eyeshadow
- Sugar Plum (pale lilac) eyeshadow
- Sweet Plum (purple) eyeshadow
- Goodnight Dreams (black) eyeshadow
- Sweet Plum (purple) lip gloss
- Pink Confetti (pink) lip gloss
- Strawberry Cookies (brownish pink) lip gloss
- Snowflake (white) lip gloss

Nail Art Stickers ($5)

Charmmy Eyeshadow Stick ($16)

Will you be purchasing anything from the Hello Kitty Sephora collection? Thoughts? Do you think it will be any better than MAC's Hello Kitty collection?

Bury Me Wearing Milly

I absolutely adore anything Milly. Michelle Smith's iconic designs are timeless, feminine, and classy with a hint of a vintage vibe. Her designs are preppy and sophisticated but not to the point where I look like I just stepped out of a southern sorority house. Think Blair Waldorf. Not Elle Woods.

I am particularly obsessed with Milly's knit and sweater dresses. They remind me of younger looking, less constrained St. John designs. Thus why I own 4 Milly dresses :D

St. John Knit Dress
Another reason why I love Milly is because it is considerably cheaper than a lot of other similar luxury brands such as Chanel, St. John, Philip Lim, and Burberry. Don't get me wrong Milly is expensive. A dress by Milly will set you back at least $300. However you have to admit that's better than $1500 for a similar-looking design by Chanel or St. John.

This holiday season I will definitely be wearing my Milly dresses. Maybe I'll even post some pics later this month. For now check out some Polyvore sets I made featuring Milly!
