The Snood: Winter's Warmest Accessory

While perusing the shelves of JCrew over the holiday weekend I came across the strangest winter accessory. Not a scarf. Not a hat. Not a hood. I just couldn't figure out what this peculiar knitted piece of a fabric was until a well-placed sign and a helpful salesman alerted me to its true name and function. It was a Snood. Half scarf, half hood. This winter's trendiest (or warmest) cold weather accessory.

It is basically a thick circular scarf. You wear it around your neck like a scarf but you can also wear it on your head as well, sort of like the hood of a thick coat (minus the coat).

Immediatly after trying on the snood, I knew I had to have it. It was so warm, cozy, and chic. Perfect for walking around campus during the upcoming cold months. Plus it will go great with all my long winter coats. :)

Check out my top picks for snoods below. Also check out me rocking my new JCrew snood! Such a great way to spend $50.

Travel Inspiration: Galapagos Islands

And I'm back with another travel inspiration post! This time I'm inspired by none other than the Galapagos Islands. These extraordinary islands off the coast of Ecuador are a place I've always dreamed of going. The islands are geologically young and are full of many endemic species. It is also home to the Charles Darwin Research Center --- love me some science! I'd love to go there and explore the beaches and forests, hike the volcanoes, mingle with iguanas and tortoises, and dive with tropical fish.

Check out my trendy, beach scientist look....

Channeling Audrey Hepburn -- Funny Face

So this past Saturday I had my boyfriend take a few pictures of me for really no reason in particular. I'd reserved a Canon G11 from my university's TV department for the weekend because I love being able to take a high quality photos during my free time. (My Nikon Powershot hasn't been getting the job done.)

I didn't realize I was chaneling Audrey Hepburn until my roommate walked in on our "photoshoot" and pointed it out. She basically owns every Audrey Hepburn movie and told me I looked like I'd walked straight out of "Funny Face" with my black long sleeve turtleneck and black jean leggings.

Here are some of the photos we took in front of my white living room wall. I've never really considered myself photogenic or a good model but me and the boy were bored and I liked my makeup. So I thought why not try to get some nice pics of myself while I have this great camera. Check out some of the pics below :)

What I'm wearing:
Black long-sleeve cotton turtleneck - Target
Black zipper jean leggings - Joe's Jeans
Black patent leather pumps - Antonio Melani

Makeup:
Bobbi Brown Mauve Palette (Fall 2008)
Covergirl Volume Exact mascara
Tarina Tarantino lipgloss - Showroom
Ardell lashes

Check out the lovely Ms. Hepburn below. Any similarities?

Let me know what you think below...

Travel Inspiration: Paris

So continuing with my travel inspired series, I of course had to make a Polyvore set inspired by none other than Paris, one of the most famous fashion capitols of the world. When I think of France I think of feminine, haute couture clothing. I also think of big sunglasses, scarves, berets, and of course Christian Louboutin heels and Chanel bags.

So going with a flirty femine look I chose a chic, pink Christian Dior belted dress. Paired with classic Louboutins, Chanel tote, printed Hermes scarf, cat-eye sunglasses (very Coco Chanel-esque?) and some pearl and diamond jewelry. Then comes my favorite part of the outfit; the beret. It's funny actually that it is designed by famed British hat designer Philip Treacy. But I just had to include it. His hats are unique and this beret just goes perfect with the pink dress. The beret is composed of a mini beige beret topped with a rose corsage and woven loop feature. So chic! I would wear my hair pulled back in a chignon with the beret tilted to the side.

Christian Dior Twist front cap sleeved dress
Christian Louboutin Pigalle 120 patent pumps
Chanel Light Pink Canvas Tassel Tote
Linda Farrow Luxe Cat-eye-frame snakeskin sunglasses
Philip Treacy Loop And Rose Fascinator Hat

Kenneth Jay Lane White Shell Pearl Chandelier Earrings
Chanel Pearl/Crystal Bracelet

So what do you ladies think? Should I spend my spring break in Paris?

Travel Inspiration: Portugal

For spring break this year my boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Europe...we're just not sure where yet. So to get the ideas flowing I've decided to do a travel inspired fashion series! First country up is Portugal. The country of boyfriend's heritage (you'd never guess he's Portuguese with his blonde hair and blue eyes). I don't think we'll be traveling here (my bf's Portuguese family is very strict when it comes to dating, probably would've approve of us traveling together). So I doubt we'll be going to Portugal...unless we decided to get married within the next 6 months lol. Until then I just fantasize about what euro-chic outfit I would wear strolling the cobblestone streets of Lisbon, riding on the back of a moped, or bathe in on the endlessly sunny Algarve beaches.

My Halloween! (Twilight, Gaga, Devil, Jersey Style!)

This Halloween I was not only responsible for doing my own makeup. But also that of four other individuals. I've become the go-to makeup artist for not only my friends but now my boyfriend! Last night transformed myself into a vampire (sorta), my boyfriend into a Situation/Pauly D hybrid lovechild, my friend Lauren into a 6 foot tall Gaga lightening bolt and all, and my roommate Allie into a smokey-eyed devil (it was the first time she's worn makeup in YEARS).

Unfortunately in disorganized college fashion I didn't get too many pics. But here are the ones I did get below :D
SITUATION

Like any true Twilight fan, I decided to take my vampire obsession one step further and actually become a vampire for Halloween. Not gonna lie, I wasn't truly happy with my costume (the stick on teeth really were not working out -- THANKS Wal-Mart). But all-in-all I had a great time putting the look together. I did an exaggerated rusty/black smokey eye. I used a super-pale foundation and contoured my cheeks and nose to make them look sharper. I finished the makeup with a burgundy lipstick. Then I curled my hair and wore a lace headband. My outfit is from Forever21. I'm wearing a faux fur vest and laced tube dress.

For my boyfriend I contoured his abs with bronzer to make them stand out. Thank god he already had nice abs because it would've been hard contouring abs on a boy with a beer-gut. I love dating an athlete :) Then I covered his face in an absurdly orange foundation (I wish you could see it!) Then I just dusted him with a powder bronzer. It was hilarious putting makeup on him. My friends were all watching and laughing hysterically. He was actually really into it. I guess he was feeling his guido vibes.

I did my friend Lauren's Gaga makeup. You can't really see it but I used a bright pink eyeshadow with a TON on black eyeliner. Then I created the lightening bolt using MAC's fluidline gel-liner in Blacktrack. Don't you love her outfit? Very Gaga-like!

Sexy

Sultry

DEVIL

For my lovely non-makeup-wearing roommate Allie I went all out. The pics really don't do her look justice. It was much more dramatic in real-life. I basically did a similar look on her that I did to myself. A dark/rusty smokey eye with dark cheeks and purpley/red lip. I wish she'd let me do her hair and makeup more often!

He was obviously feeling his look

Aren't we just adorable?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! Let me know what you were for Halloween and how you achieved your look! Give me a link to your blog if you post pics :)
