Selita Ebanks Fashion in Kanye West's 'Runaway'

So I just watched 35 minutes of artistic splendor in Kanye West's newest music video/film "Runaway". Not gonna lie, it was a tad bit long but I really didn't mind because Selita Ebanks (model and Victoria's Secret Angel) was dressed like a giant colorful feathery bird. Ms. Ebanks was in full-on bird garb with dramatic makeup and jewelry. She looked gorgeous!

Ebanks wings were designed by famous "wingman" Martin Izquierdo (he designs for the VS runway shows). Check out these amazing pics of Selita from the video!

Love the headdress, eyelashes, and makeup

I love the colors of the wings and the golden body plating

If you got. Flaunt it?

This still looks like a painting, doesn't it?

Have you or will you be watching "Runaway"? Like the bird look? Let me know!

MAC Venomous Villains!

MAC has always been one of my favorite makeup brands and I was so excited when I found out they were collaborating with Disney to create a limited edition collection: Venomous Villains. What's better than Disney and makeup?
“A MAC and Disney collaboration to celebrate the dark side in every one of us, in a glamorous sort of way. Who’s the fairest one of all? Four separate mini-collections, in haute animated couture. The incomparable Cruella De Vil and Snow White’s Evil Queen are dazzlingly devilish; Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and The Princess and the Frog’s DR. FACILIER, both up to no good on their own. Katie's purchases:
Due to my very small makeup budget, I limited myself to purchasing only four items from the collection. I decided on:
  • Dr. Facilier Greasepaint Stick in French Quarter
  • Evil Queen Lipstick in Toxic Tale
  • Maleficent Nail Polish in Bad Fair
  • Evil Queen Lipglass in Strange Potion
Thanks to a mistake in my billing address (don’t you hate it when that happens?) I was only able to acquire the lipstick and greasepaint stick due to the high demand of the products.
I received my products in the mail about a week ago and I’ve used them both a few times. Here’s what I think:
Toxic Tale Lipstick
This lipstick is by far one of my new favorites. I usually stick with neutral pinks and corals so the bright fushia coral color of toxic tale is definitely out of my comfort zone. This lipstick can be worn for both day and night looks. You can apply just a little for a subtle lipcolor or sweep it across your lips for a dramatic look. I like wearing toxic tale with a neutral brown smokey eye (you don’t want to overpower the bright lips with a dramatic eye look)
As far as texture the formula is creamy and has not dried out my lips. It is also very long lasting. I’ve noticed it still on my lips after 4-5 hours of wear. Overall I’d give it a 5/5 for its bright, pigmented color, wearability, and smooth formula.

French Quarter Greasepaint Stick
Think of this product as a very thick eyeliner or eyeshadow in stick form. I love this product because I can easily sweep it across my eyelid and smudge it out for a quick smokey eye or use it as a black eyeliner with a glittery touch.
So far I’ve only used this product for night looks and I’ve been very impressed. It definitely does the job if you’re looking to create dramatic night looks. The formula is creamy so it glides on smooth. It’s easy to smudge with either a brush or your finger. It also comes off much easier than many black eyeliners I’ve used in the past.
The stick itself is thick so if you’re looking for an eyeliner this may not be the right product for you. Both times I’ve used it as an eyeliner, the line was both dark and thicker than what a normal black eyeliner would be (however I was going for a dramatic look so I was happy with the result)
Overall I think this product is a perfect tool for any collegiette. I can see myself packing this greasepaint stick in my clutch and using it on a night out. It’s small and you can easily whip it out to touch up your makeup. This is also the perfect product if you want to take your look from day to night. Create a thick line across your lid and smudge it out with your finger to create an easy smokey eye. 4/5 for its usability, size, and smooth formula.

My Favorite Up and Coming Designers - Spring 2011

Thanks again Harper’s Bazaar for introducing me to some amazing new fashion designers and clothing lusts. I love feminine and edgy designers who create clothing that flatters a woman’s body with flirty shapes and bright colors. With spring collections hitting stores soon, warm weather clothing is already on my mind. These next three designers incorporate elegant draping, striking cutouts, and layered fabrics from organza to silk to leather. Look out for these three designers because they may just be the next big things.

Emilio de la Morena

This season at London Fashion Week (his fourth season on the official schedule) de la Morena’s inspiration was the painter Lucio Fontana, a sixties star known for his slashed canvases. In de la Morena’s designs you can see slits, splashes of bright candied color, and punctures. This season de la Morena emphasizes angularity by draping square pieces of fabric off of skirts, giving his short cocktail dresses a geometric touch. Another primary motif seen throughout his dresses is the combination of leather hand-stamped in square and dot patterns set against a satin organza. His designs look like they came straight out of a twisted candy factory.

Dion Lee

Dion Lee is an Australian designer that I was extremely excited to discover. For Spring/Summer 2011, Lee presented his signature braiding, pleating, and architectural designs during Australian Fashion Week at the Sydney Opera House  (how perfect a venue?) After looking at the combination of pastel colors with feminine draping I am convinced his designs have come right out of a Monet. Throughout the collection a primary motif is cutouts, however they are done in such a feminine way, not at all harsh or angular. When I look at his designs I think sexy but refined. These dresses show skin but in a very elegant way. Did I mention the pumps are made from real homegrown crystal? As Rachel Zoe would say, “I just died!”

Felicity Brown

Words cannot describe how far my jaw dropped when I set eyes on London fashion designer Felicity Brown’s silk, ruffled couture dress collection. Her collection is inspired by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's paintings (obviously I love clothing inspired by art) where flamboyant and provocative women are painted wearing extravagant silk ruffles and showing off shamelessly. Her dresses are made from precious silks, where the pleats and ruffles are hand-dipped in bright dye. Each dress reminds me of an elegant flower, such as an iris or rose, that I’d almost be too afraid to touch. Wearing one of these dresses would be like wearing art.

What are you favorite up and coming designers? What trends are you excited about for spring? Let me knowwww!
